Ceremony marks handover of SNG’s first affordable homes in Loughton

The first 22 households are moving into affordable homes at SNG’s development in Loughton, Essex. The Chairman of Epping Forest District Council marked the completion of the first stage of the scheme by cutting the ribbon during a tour of the homes in Borders Lane on Friday 26 January.

Guests from SNG, Epping Forest District Council, along with developers Fairview New Homes also attended the event. They met with a family who were previously in temporary accommodation and had just moved into their new home.

Family member Zubeyde Killic said: “When you’re in temporary accommodation you just feel like you have no life so it’s an amazing feeling. I’ve got a proper home now and I’m just so happy. It’s a new chapter and new beginning. The neighbours all seem really nice, quiet and understanding.

“I just want to thank SNG for all their efforts and for this home.”

The scheme is the first major project in our partnership with Epping Forest District Council as one of their preferred partners in delivering new affordable housing. We're delivering a total of 107 affordable homes on two sites as part of a section 106 agreement. Overall, there will be 65 apartments for Affordable Rent and 42 for Shared Ownership with properties ranging from one bedroom to four-bedroom family sized homes. The wider development includes 424 homes which are being built by Fairview New Homes.

Construction on the second stage is well underway with the project set to be completed by Autumn 2025.

David Gooch, SNG’s Executive Director of Development (London and Herts), commented: “As our first scheme as a preferred partner of Epping Forest District Council it was a pleasure to welcome Councillor Holly Whitbread and Councillor Darshan Sunger to our Borders Lane development. Our vision is thriving communities, over generations so it’s great to see new residents moving-in and making these quality apartments their homes.”

Councillor Holly Whitbread, Cabinet member responsible for Housing and Strategic Health at Epping Forest District Council, commented: “I’m delighted that this new development is now built and ready for people to move in. It’s fantastic to see many families getting settled in and enjoying their brand-new homes. At Epping Forest District Council, we look forward to continuing working with SNG and Fairview homes to complete all the planned homes as part of this project as we strive to provide much needed good quality affordable homes for Epping Forest Residents on our housing list across the district.”

Matt Calladine, Main Board Development Director from Fairview New Homes, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with SNG on this sustainable development of high-quality homes and public open space for both our residents and the local community to enjoy. We are passionate about providing much needed homes for local people and we therefore look forward to creating more communities within Epping Forest District Council.”
