SNG delivers yoga class boost for residents in East Herts village

An East Herts village has received a boost to its’ health and wellbeing thanks to special community yoga sessions arranged by SNG (Sovereign Network Group). Residents on the Folly Estate in Stanstead Abbots near Ware have been able to take advantage of the weekly classes held at the Folly View older persons housing scheme.

The idea was the brainchild of SNG customers living at Folly View with a mission to get their neighbours and wider villagers out of their homes following the Covid-19 pandemic. We joined forces with social enterprise The Secret Space, who were already looking to reach out to local communities, to help deliver the classes on SNG’s behalf.

Patricia Cowley, SNG Scheme Manager at Folly View, commented: “I’m so pleased that residents from the wider community have joined our customers living at Folly View to take part in these excellent classes. Yoga is a well-established way of improving health and wellbeing which makes it an ideal activity for what we are wanting to achieve.”

SNG has pledged to fully fund the classes for the next year through its charitable fund having previously contributed £500 so far. This was on top of the £1,500 funding initially received from Hertfordshire County Council.

Gerry Doherty, SNG Executive Director for Customer Services in London and Hertfordshire, said: “This is a fantastic example of local initiative and partnership working benefiting our customers and the wider community whatever their age. It sums up perfectly SNG’s vision of thriving communities, over generations.”
