Children from Welwyn church group produce colourful artwork for SNG hoarding

Children from a church group in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, have produced colourful and imaginative artwork to brighten up a hoarding display for one of our developments.

We’re delivering 111 affordable homes in the town with Shared Ownership properties being marketed as ‘Bloom’. This name was used as the theme for young people from Welwyn Garden City United Reformed Church who were given the challenge to design illustrations inspired by bees and nature.

The church then selected the top 30 designs which were shared with SNG. These standout pieces were used to form a part of the hoarding display that surrounds the development, adding a splash of vibrance and creativity gifted by the community.

Situated in the heart of Welwyn, and close to many amenities and brilliant transport connections, the development will consist of one and two-bedroom spacious apartments. All are for affordable tenures with 18 homes for Social Rent and 37 for Affordable Rent available to people from the local housing register. The remaining 56 homes will be for Shared Ownership. Funding towards the scheme was secured from Homes England.

Kalumba Musambachime, SNG’s Head of Sales and Build to Rent (London and East) comments: “At SNG, we are committed to delivering sustainable, high-quality, affordable homes that help build flourishing communities. Our collaboration with the children from United Reformed Church of Welwyn Garden City is a heartfelt tribute to the town’s green legacy as the world’s second garden city, a history we are proud to honour and continue. We look forward to welcoming new residents to Bloom in the future, and watching the budding community that will grow within it flourish.

“We would like to thank the United Reformed Church of Welwyn Garden City and all of the children that took part in the competition to create wonderful art pieces for our hoarding. Using a range of colours, techniques and styles, the children’s outstanding designs depict their glowing vision of nature and its importance which is now being shared on our construction site for the community to enjoy.”

The Reverend Martyn Neads, Minister of Welwyn Garden City United Reformed Church, comments: “Caring for creation is one of the first things God asks people to do, and it is sad that people have often failed to do so properly. These images highlight our delight in the world around us and remind us that it’s a precious resource that we should seek to protect and nurture. We are grateful for the opportunity to have shared in creating this display that has creation at its heart.”
