Our Social Value team works to measure and grow the positive social impact of our activities across SNG. We also support local organisations in our communities to do the same – because we’re committed to making a meaningful difference for our customers and the communities we serve. This social investment creates outcomes we can quantify in monetary terms, known as Social Value.
In 2024/25, SNG as an organisation generated £140.6million in social value: from supporting customers into employment and training; promoting financial and digital inclusion; providing debt advice and ‘cost of living’ support grants; to delivering environmental projects.
Social impact refers to the immediate effect that programmes have on people, organisations, and communities – helping to influence and improve quality of life.
It’s important to measure impact beyond financial contributions and key performance indicators (KPIs). That’s why we continue to develop, embed, and manage social impact measures using a variety of methods.
Customer and community-based projects delivered and/or funded by SNG all create social impact. These range from partner-funded community projects to providing homes for people at risk of homelessness.
To demonstrate the social impact we make, we monitor the progress made and use data to measure outcomes. This can include questionnaires and surveys; observations and focus groups; or assigning a monetary value to projects (known as social value).
A method to quantify how different programmes and actions affect people’s lives – the overall impact on wellbeing and quality of life. It measures the positive benefits our work brings to individuals and communities.
We primarily use HACT UK’s social value bank to understand and calculate the social return on our investments, alongside other tools. We report on social value through our corporate KPIs and impact reporting.
Our supply chain and partnerships create wider opportunities to positively impact customers and communities – working together amplifies our impact.

How it works:
- Community organisations upload projects needing support - such as funding, materials, resources, volunteer time, digital devices, skills development, mentorship, and more.
- Businesses or suppliers browse projects and offer support based on available resources.
- Community organisations can accept or decline offers.
Benefits:
- Better-resourced community partners
- Efficient way for businesses and suppliers to meet Social Value and CSR commitments
Find out more and sign up to MMP here. Please note this platform is only available to businesses, suppliers or community groups working in SNG Communities.

If your organisation is working in one of our communities, we’d love to hear from you.
Please email us at socialvalue@sng.org.uk so we discuss how we can work together to measure and grow social impact.
If your organisation is outside our geography, please note that our support offer is designed to benefit our communities and the customers who live within them. For this reason, we currently only work with organisations that operate - or plan to operate - in areas where we have homes. If you’re not active in one of our communities, our support offer isn’t available currently.
However, if you're interested in expanding into a new area, contact our Community Investment and Strategic Partnerships team at community.investment@sng.org.uk.
