Building confidence for employment
Many people miss out on jobs because they lack confidence or don't know what support is available.
To help, customers accessing SNG’s Employment and Skills service took part in a Confidence, Neurodiversity and Reasonable Adjustments in the Recruitment Process workshop delivered by Anglian Building Products through its social value commitment.
The workshop helped customers:
- Understand reasonable adjustments and how to ask for them
- Learn about their rights during recruitment
- Recognise their strengths
- Build interview confidence
- Practise using the STAR method to answer interview questions
The session gave customers a friendly space to ask questions, share experiences and learn new skills.
The difference
Customers left feeling more confident about applying for jobs and attending interviews.
One customer said:
"It gave me useful advice and helped build my confidence. I learned more about the opportunities available to help me find work, improve my skills and explore better employment options.
The session was informative, welcoming and encouraging, and I came away feeling more positive and motivated about my future."
Billy Lowe, Social Value Manager at Anglian Building Products, said:
"We were pleased to partner with SNG to deliver this session and support customers on their employment journey. Confidence can be one of the biggest barriers when applying for jobs, yet training often focuses on more tangible issues such as CV content and cover letters.
Whilst these aspects are important, providing practical guidance, sharing experiences and raising awareness of reasonable adjustments and neurodivergence prior to any applications can have a lasting impact. It's encouraging to see participants leave the workshop feeling better prepared and more confident about starting their employment journey."
Why it matters
Everyone deserves a fair chance to find work.
Some people face extra barriers during recruitment. By helping customers understand their rights, recognise their strengths and ask for the support they need, we're helping them feel more confident and ready for work. Customers also learned how reasonable adjustments can make recruitment fairer and help them show employers what they can do.
