From uncertainty to employment – Skills 4 Work

One local resident came to Skills 4 Work unsure about their future. Caring responsibilities and a loss of confidence had made it difficult to find work.

They wanted help to explore their options and gain the confidence to move forward.

Overcoming barriers

With support from an Employment and Skills Coach, they received help with their CV, career planning, skills development and regular one-to-one coaching.

The support was flexible and fitted around their personal circumstances. This helped them stay focused on their goals while managing challenges at home.

Through training and regular conversations, they recognised their strengths and rediscovered their interest in working in education.

Returning to work

With growing confidence, they applied for local roles and secured employment.

They told us the support helped them feel more positive about the future and better prepared to return to work.

The experience was so positive that they recommended the programme to a friend, who has since found employment too.

Making a difference across Basingstoke

This resident's experience is one example of the difference Skills 4 Work has made across Basingstoke and Deane. Funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the programme has supported 86 local residents. So far, 36 people have moved into employment and 48 have taken part in work-related training.

Feedback shows that 87% of participants feel more confident about their job prospects after taking part.
