Building for everyone: Updated Camrose plans prioritise accessibility and affordability
Sovereign Hill Partnership (SHP), a partnership between SNG and the placemaking-housebuilder Hill, has updated proposals for the redevelopment of the former Camrose football stadium in Basingstoke.
This will be a refined plan to deliver around 100 affordable homes, designed to be modern, energy‑efficient and accessible to meet diverse local needs. This updated scheme supersedes earlier proposals and reflects feedback from engagement with residents and stakeholders to date.
Polly Gardner, SNG Regeneration and Major Projects Director, said: “We’re proud to be progressing plans that will deliver much‑needed, high‑quality affordable homes for Basingstoke. These proposals will bring the Camrose site back into positive use for the benefit of the community by providing new open space and pedestrian and cycle routes which will benefit new and existing residents.
“This development will also act as a showcase for what’s possible across the wider renewal of Buckskin and South Ham and reflects our long‑term commitment to providing more affordable, accessible homes for the borough and creating great places for people to live.”
Emphasis on accessibility and inclusive design
All homes in the updated scheme are being designed with modern accessibility needs in mind, including adaptable layouts, step‑free entrances where feasible, and energy‑efficient features that support lower running costs for residents. SNG’s Homes and Place Standard makes sure homes are future‑ready, inclusive, and built to support thriving communities.
As shown in the proposed plans, SHP is focusing on delivering homes in a range of sizes at this site, including a large number of family houses, homes for disabled people and a small number of two storey walk-up maisonette style apartments. The development also aims to sensitively reflect the site’s history as the former home of Basingstoke Town Football Club, with ongoing work to preserve memorabilia and support the club’s future ambitions and heritage.
Have your say: Community feedback event
SHP are inviting residents to a dedicated feedback event where updated designs, layout proposals, landscape concepts and accessibility features will be shared. All the exhibition materials and design ideas from the exhibition are available to view online on the Camrose consultation website.
