Construction work underway on 84 affordable homes in Southampton
A brand-new neighbourhood at Bitterne Park in Southampton, is taking shape as construction gets underway on 84 much-needed affordable homes.
The Woodcroft scheme includes mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, two- and three-bedroom houses, and two-bedroom coach house-style apartments set above garages. The new homes will meet a wide range of local housing needs with 42 homes for social rent, available to people on Southampton City Council's housing register, and the remaining 42 for Shared Ownership.
Located on the outskirts of Bitterne Park, Woodcroft is a land-led scheme, with SNG choosing the location based on its strong transport connections and access to green space.
The development is surrounded by mature trees, while the site design incorporates generous gardens and green areas. Woodcroft has achieved a high score under SNG's sector-leading Homes and Place Standard, reflecting its access to green space, energy efficiency, neighbourhood safety and local infrastructure.
The completed development will be close to highly rated schools and Bitterne railway station, providing convenient commuter links into Southampton. Frequent local bus services and easy access to the M3 and M27 offer additional transport options.
Built by Thakeham, the first apartments and houses at Woodcroft are expected to be available from late 2027.
