Closure notice on boarded up front door of closed property at Wenlock Court

Problem resident evicted from Christchurch property

Successful partnership working between SNG, Dorset Police, and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has led to the eviction of a problem tenant from a property in Christchurch.

The occupant of a flat at Wenlock Court in Somerford, along with their visitors, had caused significant distress to neighbours through criminal activity, drug dealing, and persistent anti-social behaviour.

Despite repeated attempts by SNG and partners to engage with the tenant, including a previous closure order, the issues continued. As a last resort, a full closure order was enforced in October and the tenant has now been removed from the property. The former resident also owed more than £2,000 in rent arrears, which SNG will continue to pursue.

The property in Wenlock Court is now fully secure so the previous tenant and their associates can’t return. We'll ensure the property is then in good condition so that it can be re-let to a family in need of a good home.

Local residents have welcomed the action taken. One neighbour told us: “Thank you once again for your hard work — you cannot imagine how much we appreciate it.”

Helen Hann, SNG Regional Director for Localities, said: “We are pleased that this tenant has now been removed from the property and can no longer cause crime or nuisance. The vast majority of our customers are good residents who respect their homes and communities, and they deserve to live their lives in peace. We will not hesitate to work with partners to take firm action against perpetrators of crime and anti-social behaviour.”

Inspector Dan Cullen, of Bournemouth East and Christchurch Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT). Dorset Police, said: “We fully recognise the impact this kind of activity has on the local community and we will take action to ensure that residents feel safe and vulnerable individuals are safeguarded.”
