Local residents invited to share views on affordable homes development at former Camrose Football Ground

Sovereign Hill Partnership (SHP), a partnership between SNG and the placemaking-housebuilder Hill, is inviting local residents to share views on proposals for transforming the former Camrose Football Ground into a vibrant new neighbourhood, providing around 100 affordable homes to address local housing needs.

Two public consultation events will be held on 14 and 16 October at St Peter’s Church on Pinkerton Road, providing an opportunity for residents to contribute to shaping the future plans for the site.

For the first event, registration is required for residents to book a 20-minute session with members of the design and project team for an in-depth discussion. The second event is an informal drop-in session with the project team, with no booking required. At both events, attendees will be able to view the draft layout and contribute ideas on landscape design, play areas, and how the legacy of the site could be honoured.

The proposed scheme includes approximately 100 homes of different sizes to address local needs. Homes will be built to our sector-leading Homes and Place Standard, which goes much further than minimum requirements and ensures they are modern, energy-efficient, and accessible.

Located within a short distance of Basingstoke town centre, the site offers excellent access to local shops, Brighton Hill Retail Park, services, and public transport. Its proximity to green spaces for walking and wellbeing makes it a convenient location.

Joe Marshall, SNG Regional Managing Director – South, said: “We’re proud to be bringing forward proposals that will deliver much-needed affordable homes for people in Basingstoke.  This is a real opportunity to bring the Camrose site back into positive use for the benefit of the community.”

“Our plans aim to create a safe, welcoming environment where residents can thrive, with homes that are well-designed and close to amenities that support modern living. We’re looking forward to hearing from local residents as we develop the proposals further.”

The Camrose Football Ground was once the home of Basingstoke Town Football Club. The site has been vacant since 2019 and is now in poor repair. We’re are working with the football club to support them in finding the best ways to help while ensuring that valuable memorabilia and seating are preserved - and donated 20 seats to assist the club’s facilities, with plans for additional seat donations in the future. Furthermore, some seats will also be donated to another Hampshire-based football club, showing our dedication to Social Value within the local community.

The Camrose site previously had outline planning consent for new homes and a care home, granted to the previous owner (Basron Developments) following an appeal in 2022. However, the decision has since been made not to implement that scheme, in favour of a revised proposal that delivers 100% affordable housing and enhanced placemaking. Following the public consultation, SHP is working towards submitting a planning application in early 2026.
