SNG confirms intention to appoint 30 architect practices to new Architects Framework

We've announced our intention to appoint 30 architect practices to our new £24 million four-year Architects Framework beginning this month (subject to signing individual contracts), which will support the delivery of high-quality affordable homes and sustainable communities across the regions where we operate.

The new framework brings together architectural expertise from a diverse range of suppliers across the sector, creating a strong foundation for our future development pipeline. It is structured across two distinct lots: Lot 1 – Masterplanning, focused on shaping cohesive, sustainable communities, and Lot 2 – Housing, centred on the design and delivery of high-quality homes.

Applications from a diverse range of practices was encouraged, including smaller and innovative organisations. We received 113 responses to the Procurement Specific Questionnaire stage of the process, with 45 applicants subsequently invited to submit responses to the Invitation to Tender. Thirty practices are being appointed across the two lots, comprising six architect practices in Lot 1 and 24 in Lot 2, reflecting our anticipated development and regeneration pipeline.

The launch of the framework comes as we explore opportunities to share our sector-leading Homes and Place Standard with housing associations, planners, developers, consultants and local authorities. Co-designed with customers, the Homes and Place Standard and assessment tool help inform qualitative and performance outcomes for homes and places, balancing policy and regulatory requirements while reflecting customer priorities and investment decisions.

The proposed practices demonstrated not only strong financial and social value credentials, but also an in-depth understanding of the Homes and Place Standard, ensuring future schemes are aligned with SNG’s values and deliver the best possible design outcomes for customers. The assessment process included consideration of the challenges currently facing the social housing sector and how practices balance cost and viability with quality and long-term value.

Antje Saunders, SNG’s Design Director, said: "We’re delighted to announce the appointment of our first-ever Architects Framework. It will strengthen our partnerships with industry specialists and help raise the quality of the homes and places we deliver.

"Through this framework, we’re setting a clear ambition not only for the homes we build, but for the communities we help shape. By bringing together organisations that share our commitment to great design, sustainability and customer-led outcomes, we can create places where people and communities can thrive for generations to come."
