SNG takes handover of 18 affordable homes at Brabazon near Bristol
We received the keys to 18 affordable homes at Brabazon, a new community north of Bristol, from YTL Developments. Representatives from SNG and YTL gathered together to mark the occasion outside the new properties on Thursday 18 September.
The handover forms part of the development’s Heritage District – the second phase of the Brabazon scheme which is built on the former Filton Airfield in South Gloucestershire. A total of 6,500 homes are being delivered at Brabazon with 1,700 set to be affordable.
SNG’s homes are on Smart Street, named after Ada Smart – a pioneering woman who worked in the wing-making workshop at this former Airfield in the 1940s. They’re a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties – arranged over two or three storeys which offer spacious bedrooms, stylish family bathrooms, high-spec kitchens, and private gardens.
All homes are built to a fabric-first standard, a design approach that prioritises insulation, airtightness and solar orientation to create comfortable, energy-efficient homes which are affordable to heat. Each property is also equipped with sustainable features including solar panels, electric vehicle charging points and Mitsubishi Ecodan air source heat pumps to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption.
Lesley Metcalf, SNG’s Development Delivery Director – West, said: “We’re delighted to have taken handover of 18 affordable homes on the current residential construction phase at YTL’s flagship Brabazon development.
“These contemporary homes have been thoughtfully designed with high quality materials and generous landscaping and meet our sector leading Homes and Place Standard. This means new customers can look forward to living in a good home in a thriving community.
Our gratitude to YTL’s site team and aftercare team whose high standards help so much to ensure our customers can settle in quickly and enjoy their new homes.”
Seb Loyn, Planning & Development Director at YTL Developments said: “Brabazon is about building a legacy – not just of beautiful homes, but of opportunity and belonging. These affordable homes are a vital part of that vision, helping to ensure that everyone has access to a place they can call home. We’re proud to be working with SNG to deliver housing that supports both local communities and national priorities.”
