Work to begin on 21 social rent homes in Basingstoke

We'll shortly begin demolition work at Malmesbury Field in Brighton Hill, Basingstoke, to make way for 21 new social rent homes.

Consent for the scheme was secured in December and will see an empty 1960s retirement scheme replaced with high quality one, two and three bedroom homes. These include 12 houses and nine apartments which will all be available to people on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s housing register.

The modern homes will all meet our sector leading Homes and Place standard with sustainable and energy efficient features such as air source heat pumps and solar panels. There will be communal greens spaces and landscaping, 61 cycle spaces and a parking space for each home.

Satwinder Kukadia, SNG’s Development Delivery Director – South, commented: “We know many local people had strong ties and memories associated with Malmesbury Field. Sadly, it no longer met the standards customers expect and we’re pleased to see work beginning on an exciting new chapter for the site. Local people in need of good-quality, affordable homes can look forward to moving into brand-new, energy‑efficient properties where they can live and thrive.”

The new residents will start moving in from Summer 2027 and all former residents of Malmesbury Field have been successfully rehoused.
