Transforming young lives at The Foyer
The Foyer is an SNG managed scheme on the Isle of Wight which provides a home and support services for young people aged 18 to 30. It also provides accommodation for other homeless people during periods of extreme cold or warm weather.
It offers its residents safe accommodation and offers housing support and advice, using an informed, resident-led approach. Each resident matched to a Support Worker who supports them throughout their time living at The Foyer – from induction to moving in to independent accommodation, coaching and collaborating with them to achieve their personal goals and outcomes.
The areas of support are driven by what our young people tell us is important to them - such as access to education, training, employment or support with mental health issues or harmful behaviours around substances.
The Foyer has ensuite bedsits, arranged across nine flats, each with their own kitchen. It also hosts a fully equipped gym and meeting spaces.
Referrals come from the Isle of Wight Council who partly fund the schemes services.
Rachel Strange, SNG’s Head of Supported Housing, commented: “The Foyer has transformed and continues to transform the lives of young people by providing a safe place to live and helping them prepare for a brighter, independent future. Its success highlights the vital importance of long term, sustainable investment in supported housing.”
Mia’s story
Mia moved into The Foyer in June 2023 following a referral from the council. She has cerebral palsy and had suffered bullying and felt unsafe in previous hostels that she’d lived in. In the film Mia talks about how The Foyer made her feel safe and helped to equip her with the skills to move forward with her life along with funding her Criminal Psychology course. She has since moved into her own home earlier in 2025, where she is now thriving.
